Alphagan Eye Drops Indications
OAG; ocular hypertension.
Alphagan Eye Drops Dosage Form
Topical ophthalmic solution 0.2% (benzalkonium chloride
preservative).
Alphagan Eye Drops Dose
1 drop to affected eye(s) three times per day The IOP-lowering
effect diminishes over time in some patients. This loss of
effect appears with a variable time of onset in each patient
and should be closely monitored.
Alphagan Eye Drops Contraindications
In patients receiving MAOIs or in patients with a known hypersensitivity
to the product or any of its components. Caution
to be exercised in those with severe cardiovascular disease,
hepatic/renal impairment, depression, coronary or cerebral
insufficiency, Raynaud�s phenomenon, orthostatic hypotension,
thromboangiitis obliterans. May cause drowsiness and/or
fatigue; caution to be exercised during hazardous activities.
Alphagan Eye Drops Warnings
Agitation, apnea, bradycardia, convulsion, cyanosis, depression,
dyspnea, emotional instabilities, hypotension, hypothermia,
hypotonia, hypoventilation, irritability, lethargy, somnolence,
and stupor have been reported in pediatric patients.
Alphagan Eye Drops Adverse Reactions
In descending order of incidence: oral dryness, ocular hyperemia,
burning and stinging, headache, blurring, foreign-body
sensation, fatigue/drowsiness, conjunctival follicles, ocular allergic
reactions, and ocular pruritus (10�30% of patients); corneal
staining/erosion, photophobia, eyelid erythema, ocular
ache/pain, ocular dryness, tearing, upper respiratory symptoms,
eyelid edema, conjunctival edema, dizziness, blepharitis,
ocular irritation, gastrointestinal symptoms, asthenia,
conjunctival blanching, abnormal vision, and muscular pains
(3�9% of patients); lid crusting, conjunctival hemorrhage, abnormal
taste, insomnia, conjunctival discharge, depression,
hypertension, anxiety, palpitations/arrhythmias, nasal dryness
and syncope (less than 3% of patients).Postmarketing
use: bradycardia, hypotension, iritis, miosis, skin reactions,
tachycardia (frequency unknown). In infants, apnea, bradycardia,
hypotension, hypotonia, and somnolence have been
reported.
Alphagan Eye Drops Drug Interactions
No carcinogenic, mutagenic, or impairment of fertility noted
in animal studies. No specific drug interaction studies
have been conducted. May cause additive effects with CNS
depressants. Use caution with beta-blockers, antihypertensives,
cardiac glycosides, TCAs. In animal studies, brimonidine
tartrate was excreted in human milk. Not recommended in
children younger than 2 years of age.
