Summary for Slitlamp fundoscopy.
Clean your hands and the instrument and explain what you are going to do, this will form the basis of the conversation that you should conduct during the whole test. This interests the patient, and helps you to remember the details for your records.
The room must be dark.
Most people use a standard 90ds lens.
It takes practice and this is best done on undilated eyes - as this is most tricky = but will give you excelent technique: so with dilation - it will be a breeze.
Use a elbow rest - and make sure you and your patient are comfortable.
Hold the lens firmly and keep it very still.
Make sure the patient keeps forehead against the rest, chin on the chin strap and eyes at the level mark.
Don't be too serious and draw and record everything before you make your diagnosis.
