Dexaron Plus
Composition: Each 1ml of the drops or 1gm of the ointment contains:
- Dexamethasone Sodium Phosphate equivalent to Dexamethasone 1mg
- Polymyxin "B" sulphate equivalent to Polymyxin B 6000 units
- Neomycin sulphate equivalent to Neomycin 3.5mg


Properties: Dexaron ® plus Eye or Ear Drops or Ointment is a combination of:
- Dexamethasone, a corticosteroid that has a powerful anti-inflammatory effect for the management of severe inflammatory diseases of the anterior segment of the eye and for the inflammation of the external auditory canal.
- Neomycin, a bactericidal amino-glycoside that is active against many Gram -ve and some Gram +ve organisms.
- Polymyxin B, an active topical antibiotic against many Gram -ve organisms, including Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
- The combination of these anti-infective components provides a broad spectrum anti-microbial action against the following common bacterial eye and ear pathogens:
• Staphylococcus aureus.
• Escherichia coli.
• Haemophilus influenzae.
• Klebsiella / Enterobacter species.
• Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
Indications: Dexaron® Plus is mainly indicated for severe steroid-responsive inflammatory ocular or otic conditions where bacterial infections or a risk of bacterial infection exists such as:
- Post-operative ocular inflammation.
- Acute inflammatory conditions of conjunctiva, sclera, lids, iris, ciliary body and anterior segment of the globe such as cyclitis, iritis, iridocyclitis, scleritis, keratitis, and vernal keratoconjunctivitis (spring catarrh).
- Certain allergic or infective conjunctivitis.
- Corneal injury from chemical radiation or thermal burns or penetration of foreign bodies.
- Inflammation of the skin of the external auditory canal (otitis externa).

Contra-Indictions: - Some viral or fungal infections of the cornea and conjunctiva e.g. herpes simplex keratitis (dendritic keratitis), vaccinia and varicella.
- In case of ear infection, drops should not be used when the ear drum is perforated.
- Hypersensitivity to any component of the medication Precautions.
- Prolonged use may result in glaucoma, thinning of the cornea and sclera, or secondary fungal infections. Therefore, initiation and renewal of the medication should be made by a physician only after examination. Intraocular pressure should be routinely monitored.
- Should not be prescribed for undiagnosed red eye which may be caused by herpes simplex virus.
- If inflammation or pain persists longer than 48 hours or becomes aggravated, the patient should be advised to discontinue use of the medication and consult a physician.

Adverse Effects:
Dosage & Administration: Drops:
Instill 1-2 drops into the affected eye(s) or ear(s) 4 times daily. In severe eye diseases, drops may be used hourly, being tapered to discontinuation as inflammation subsides

Ointment:
Apply either at night (if eye or ear drops were used during the day) or 3 times daily if eye or ear ointment is used alone or as directed by the physician.

Patient Information:
- Shake well before use (for Dexaron® Plus Drops)
- To avoid contamination, do not touch applicator tip to any surface and replace cap after using
- Do not use the same bottle simultaneously for eye and ear infections
