Summary and Conclusion :

EFFECT OF SURFACTANT THERAPY ON DEVELOPMENTAL OUTCOME.
Sinken and his collegues assessed the effects of surfactant therapy on developmental outcome, they observed that prophylaclic surfactant administration to infants of < 30 wks gestation was associated with fewer long-term clinical pulmonary complications than assignment to rescue administration. Formal pulmonary testing at school age did not reveal significant differences between treatment groups and those infants who could be tested. Also, there were no group differences found on neurolgic cognitive, behavioral or educational assessment at school age (Sinkin et al., 1998).
