A scar is that pale pink, brown or silvery patch of skin that grows in the place where you once had a cut, scrape or sore. A scar is the skin's way of repairing itself after injury. In deep wounds, closing up each layer one by one eliminates dead space and decreases the tension on the wound edges. The choice of suture materials is also important in influencing the final scar.
