[1] TRAUMATIC FAT NECROSIS

Pathogenesis:
Trauma splitting of fat into fatty acid and glycerol.
Calcium in blood + glycerol and fatty acid will give calcified area in the breast.
Hard lump attached to the skin dimpling and retraction of nipple
Causes:
Sustained pressure Direct trauma Needle biopsy
Differential Diagnosis: with cancer breast
Treatment:
Excision biopsy is the only differentiation fromcancer.
The excised mass show characteristic chalky white appearance with no gritty sensation.
