Clinical Picture:
Incubation period: short 1:2 days.
General features:
Early : Features of toxaemia as fever headache, malaise , tachycardia nausea, vomiting .
Late : the patient become comatosed and die with anaemia and jaundice .
Local features:
Early : patient complains of tension in the wound .
The wound becomes swollen with tenderness and bright red colouration .
Late: The wound become dusky red then olive green then black.
The discharge has a foul fishy odour .
Crepitus under the skin due to gas formation but it is
Absent in many cases.
Can be found in any infection with gas forming organism.
Investigations:
1- Swab from the wound short gram + ve bacilli .
2- Plain X-ray on the affected Limb Gas under the skin.
