Pleural Diseases

Lung parenchyma not sensitive to pain
The Sensitive areas are:
Parietal pleura
Bronchial & tracheal mucosa

I. Acute dry pleurisy
Causes 1- 1ry Viral, T.B., malignancy.
2- 2ry to systemic disease as S.L.E.
3- extension from nearby structures

Lung lesion Mediastinal
Abscess. Mediastinitis
Pneumonia


Subdiaphragmatic Chest wall
Amoebic liver abs Osteomylitis

C/P
(pleurisy is not a diagnosis but simply the term used to described an underlying disease)
1- chest pain stitching
localized
­ with cough & inspiration
2- False dyspnea
3- Pleural. rub or pleuropericardial rub.

Investigations: Cause

Treatment
NSAID for pain.
Cause.
