GOAD

Def. Group of diseases Ch. Ch. by the expiratory flow rate as the obstruction increased during expiration.
This leading to prolonged active expiration.
harsh vesicular breathing.
Types of GOAD :
1- Chronic bronchitis 2- Bronchial Asthma.
3- Emphysema 4- Asthmatic Bronchitis.
5- Bronchiectasis is considered as Obstructive disease.
Purulent disease.
N.B. Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a popular term to describe patients with chronic Bronchitis and emphysema

Factors determine type of GOAD:
(1) Chronic irritation

{fumes smoke} productive cough

chronic bronchitis
(2) bronchospasem due to e.g. Allergy

attacks of dyspnea & in between the attacks patients are free

bronchial asthma.
(3) Chronic Irritation. + bronchospasm

Asthmatic bronchitis (chronic bronchitis + bronchospasem)

(4) Emphysema ( the compliance of the lung tissue)

inspiration is active process no effect

expiration is passive depends upon elastic recoil.
So there is an expiratory air way obstruction in emphysema.
