Complicaitons of Obesity:
-Increase incidence of diseases e.g. Diabetes mellitus, hypertension, biliary disease, congestive heart failure, Prokwickian syndrome, arthritis, endocrine disorders, infertillity, cancers of the breast, uterus & prostate.
-Increase incidence of operative complications : infection, pulmonary &cardiovascular complications

Surgery usually comes after a long period of medical therapy in the form of appetite suppressants, low caloric food, hospital stay and acupunctures.
Operations: Many surgical interferences are tried e.g. wiring of the jaw, small intestine bypass.
* The operation which is currently used is vertical banded gastroplasty.
Now this band can be applied by laparoscope with minimal postoperative complications.
