Ambroxol COMPOSITION :
Oral drops: Each 1 ml contains ambroxol HCL 7.5 mg.
Syrup: Each 5 ml contains ambroxol HCL 15 mg.
Tablets: Each tabJet contains ambroxol HCL30.mg.
SR Capsules: Each capsule contains ambroxol HCL 75 mg.
Ambroxol PHARMACOLOGICAL PROPERTIES :
Ambroxol is the active metabolite of bromhexine. It is rapidly and well absorbed from the GIT causing no disruption of the gastric mucosa. Ambroxol exerts its clinical effect through the breakdown of disulphide bonds of mucopolysaccarides of the sputum. This allows the liqui,ficati of the viscous bronchial mucous through decreasing its viscosity. Ambroxol HCI possesses mucokinetic and secretolytic properties. It promotes the removal of tenacious secretions in the respiratory tract and reduces mucus stasis. Expectoration of mucus is facilitated and breathing is eased considerably. Mucus secretion is normalized during Ambroxol treatment. Cough and sputum volume are often significantly reduced. The film-like secretion on the surface of the respiratory mucosa can thus perform its normal protective function. Long term use is possible because of the good tolerability of the preparation.
Ambroxol INDICATIONS :
Ambroxol is amucoregulator For the treatment of respiratory disorders
associated with viscid mucus such as:
-Bronchitis
-Pneumonia
-Otitis media
-Sinusitis
-Nasopharyngitis
– Tracheobro nch itis
-Bronchiectasis
Ambroxol SIDE EFFECTS :
Ambroxol hydrochloride is generally well-tolerated. Adverse eFfects include fatigue,dry mouth,rhinorrhea,constipation,dysuria and contact dermatitis.
Ambroxol CONTRA-INDICATIONS :
Hypersensitivity to any of the components of the preparation.
Ambroxol Pregnancy and lactation :
Safety has not yet been established.
Ambroxol DOSAGE :
Infants up ta 2 years:
Drops: 5- 10 drops 3 times daily
Syrup: 1/2 teaspoonful 2 times daily
Children 2-5 years:
Drops: 10-20 drops 3 times daily
Syrup: 1/2 teaspoonful 3 times daily
Children 5-12 years:
Syrup: 1 teaspoonful 3 times daily
tablets; 1/2 tablet 3 times daily
Adults:
Tablets: 1 tablet 3 times daily
SR Capsules: One capsule once daily
Syrup: 2 teaspoonful 3 times daily
