How does Fucithalmic eye drops work?

Fucithalmic viscous eye drops contain the active ingredient fusidic acid, which is an antibiotic medicine. It is used to treat bacterial infections of the membrane that covers the whites of the eyes and lining of the eyelids (bacterial conjunctivitis).
Fusidic acid works by preventing the bacteria from producing proteins that are essential to them. Without these proteins the bacteria cannot grow, replicate and increase in numbers. Fusidic acid therefore stops the spread of infection and remaining bacteria are killed by the body’s immune system or eventually die.

What is Fucithalmic eye drops used for?

  • Bacterial conjunctivitis

Warning for Fucithalmic eye drops !

  • This medicine is not to be taken by mouth.
  • You should not wear contact lenses while using these eye drops.
  • Make sure you complete the course prescribed by your doctor, even if it seems that the infection has cleared up. Stopping the course early increases the chance that the infection will come back and that the bacteria will grow resistant to the antibiotic.
  • The tube should be disposed of four weeks after opening. You should not use the drops after this time because they may be contaminated with bacteria. (The preservative only protects the drops for four weeks after opening.)
