Mucophylline Syrup Composition:

Each teaspoonful (5ml) contains:
Bromhexine hydrochloride     4 mg.
Acephylline piperazine     100 mg.

 Mucophylline Syrup Properties:

Mucophylline acts on the bronchial tree clearing it from the viscid sputum and relaxing its constricted muscles providing an efficient symptomatic treatment
in most respiratory ailments through the action of its two active ingredients. Bromhexine hydrochloride is a mucolytic agent which acts by depolymerization of the mucopolysaccharide ground substance of the sputum increasing its fluidity so facilitates its expectoration and consequently minimizes the intensity and frequency of cough. Acephylline piperazine. The other active ingredient in MUCOPHYLLlNE is a theophylline derivative with a direct bronchodilator action. It has the advantages over theophylline in being far less toxic and by producing minimal gastric irritation.

 Mucophylline Syrup Indications and usage:

– Cough-specially when associated With bronchospasm in such conditions as: asthma, emphysema, acute & chronic bronchitis, chronic inflammatory lung diseases & inhalation of irritants, etc.
– To facilitate expectoration of contrast media or other abnormal fluids from the bronchial tree. The following side effects, contraindications, precautions, drug interaction are those of theophylline derivative in general.

 Mucophylline Syrup Contra-indications:

– Hypersensitivity to xanthines.
– Severe renal or hepatic impairment.
– Gastritis and active peptic ulcer.
– Rapid cardiac arrythmias, and acute coronary heart disease when myocardial stimulation might be harmful.

 Mucophylline Syrup Side effects:

Occasionally occur in the form of one or more of the following:
– Gastrointestinal disturbance: epigastric pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea.
– C.N.S stimulation: irritability (specially in children). Nervousness, insomnia, head
– Palpitations, tachycardia, extrasystoles.
– Tachypnea, Transient urinary frequency.

 Mucophylline Syrup Drug interactions:

– Xanthine derivatives may;
– Produce excessive C.N.S stimulation when given with ephedrine or other sympathomimetics specially in children (in the very young convulsions may occur)
– Enhance the toxicity of digitalis glycosides.
– The bronchodilator action of xanthines may be antagonized by beta-adrenergic blockers & reduced by smoking.
– Tachycardia may occur when xanthines are given with reserpine or sympathomimetics.
– Increased serum levels and effects of theophylline derivatives may occur with erythromycin, lincomycin,

 Mucophylline Syrup Warnings & Precautions:

– Avoid over dosage in children specially young ones.
– Use with caution in cases of: compromised cardiac or circulatory function, Hyperthyroidism, prostatic hypertrophy, peptic ulcer, glaucoma, diabetes, severe
hypertension, and in nursing mothers.
– Keep out of the reach of children.
– USE IN PREGNANCY: Safety not established.

Dosage and administration:

Adults: 2 teaspoonfuls t.d.s.
Children:
– Over 10 years: 2 teaspoonfuls t.d.s.
– 5 – 10 years: 1 teaspoonful t.d.s.
– 1 – 5 years: 1/2 teaspoonful t.d.s. (to be taken after meals).

 Mucophylline Syrup Packing:

Bottles of 125 ml.
